About Jennifer

When Jennifer Hobbs was 16, she was in a car accident and given two hours to live. She lost her spleen, an ovary, and broke her leg, hip, and femur. Against the odds, Jennifer survived and was inspired to become a physical therapist. This was just the beginning of her journey to holistic health.

As she worked towards achieving this goal, she had the opportunity to work with a physical therapist as an aide. She was struck by the single-focused approach to healing, and felt like something significant was missing. She was drawn to discussing other possible factors that could be impacting patients’ health — food.

Shortly after finding this new interest, Jennifer became very ill and discovered she had celiac disease. She independently adjusted her diet and took a new approach to nutrition. Experiencing the impact her diet had on her health and wellness shifted her interest to nutrition.

As she explored nutrition, she uncovered a myriad of diet-related illnesses that had impacted her relatives on both sides of her family. Knowing she didn’t want to go down the same path, she also began to look at how diet could prevent certain diseases.

Recognizing the strong correlation between nutrition and both physical and mental health, Jennifer has leveraged her studies to help educate people on finding wellness through food. She offers health coaching consultations and spiritual counseling both online and in-person.

One of the services she offers her clients is talking with them with their doctor to ensure her services are an effective complementary approach to health and wellness. She also specializes in working with children to educate them on nutrition and healthy eating.

Why did you join the PWA?

“As a holistic practitioner, I know how important it is for me to protect myself. I wanted to have everything in order to protect my services. In New York, there is nothing regulating holistic nutritionists, but I know there had to be something out there so I did some research to see what my options were.

I was drawn to the PWA because I love that they have an online presence and community, that they are run by real people that you can reach out and talk to someone, and that you are part of such a big network.”

How has being PWA-licensed helped you in your holistic business?

“Licensure with the PWA gives me so much more confidence in my services. I was confident before, but now knowing I have so much backing and continued support I feel even better.

Plus, the networking with the PWA helps me to continue to be educated in what I practice, I love it.”
