About Wafa'a

When Wafa’a Akl’s daughter was diagnosed with Type 1 Diabetes as a child, she was determined to help improve her health through natural methods, using macrobiotics instead of conventional, Western medicine.

After seeing the power alternative medicine had on her own family, Wafa’a was inspired to transition from being a college professor of engineering to being a holistic health practitioner. She began studying macrobiotics and learned how to feed the body as a whole to promote improved health.

Still passionate about macrobiotics, Wafa’a began to recognize the effects of putting something external into the body. Whenever we add something external, even certain foods, toxins can accumulate. Wafa'a learned that it's not only important to be mindful of what we're putting into our bodies, but also that we "flush out" built-in toxins as well. With this in mind, she discovered Hijama therapy as an ideal complementary holistic approach.

Hijama, also known as cupping therapy, provides a natural detox without any external elements going into the body. By removing toxins and unfolding emotional and physical layers, it can change blood flow levels, which can improve both physical and emotional health.

In 2005, Wafa’a founded the Healing Touch Academy Inc. where she now provides educational counseling and health services, including understanding macrobiotic principles and mastering macrobiotic cooking. She also provides cupping therapy and training to future holistic practitioners.

Wafa'a is a licensed member of the Professional Wellness Alliance and enjoys the best legal defense possible for her holistic services.

Why did you join the PWA?

I knew how important it was for my holistic services to be protected legally. So, I set out to find the solution and consulted with numerous lawyers, and even the mayor of my city. No one could help me.

After a long journey of searching, I found the Professional Wellness Alliance. It was my answer. Being a part of this community gives me peace of mind knowing that I can provide my services legally. I can also proudly teach and guide others who are interested in becoming a cupping therapy practitioner.
